Marine Visons gallery now up

To get an idea how the Marine Visions Art competition went including the launch event on Friday 11 May, have a look at the art competition page.

There were over 100 entries with the best of show being awarded to USA sculpturess Angela Pozzi. Other winners include Dailan Pugh (artistic flair), Anthony Walker (environment award) and Oliver Purses (people’s choice).

We have uploaded a gallery of the winning images on the photo competition page.

Go and check it out. Congratulations to all the winners. Close to $20,000 worth of prizes were awarded to Byron Underwater Festival participants.

Hope to see everyone next year and we keep our fingers cross for better conditions - else we might have to introduce the Kellogs award for the best photograph of cornflake weed

Give us a couple of days to catch our breath before the winning images will go online.

For those who missed the Underwater Festival Finale - there were some awesome images, despite very challenging conditions.

And the biggest winner was John Natoli … that’s how much we can say for now.

See you all at the Byron Underwater Festival 2008 and keep on watching this site for news, winning images and art and much more.

‘Marine Visions’ massive success

Over 100 artworks from around the world were submitted to the ‘Marine Visions’ Art Competition & Exhibition and a massive crowd turned up to the launch last night. Held between Mary Ryan’s and the Retrospect Gallery it was pushing room only with close to 300 people at peak.

Everyone was very impressed with the quality of the submitted works and we will create a separate page with photos of some of the entries on the festival website very soon.

A big thanks to everyone for their support of the festival so far !

Underwater Festival underway … come and participate!

The 1st annual Byron Underwater festival is in its second day today and the response has been fantastic. Come and join us for many of the amazing events, including marine wildlife presentations at the Byron Bay Community Centre today and tomorrow, the ‘Marine Visions’ Art competition tonight from 6pm at Mary Ryan’s and the Underwater Festival Finale on Sunday.

Make sure to check out the complete timetable or in the local papers in Byron Bay and Lismore (Echo, Byron Shire News and the Northern Star).
